Chestnut Tree Stables was originally called Marriott Stables when built by The Jockey Club along the then undeveloped Hamilton Road in 1968. Champion trainer Henry Cecil was its first occupant and trained back to back Guineas winners in Wollow and Bolkonski, before he moved to his then father in law, Sir Noel Murless' Warren Place where he still trains.

Lord Huntingdon, the Queen's former trainer, was another distinguished owner of the yard, and its last owner before Rae was Robert Williams.

Rae bought the yard in 1998, when it was not in good condition. Since his purchase all the boxes have been re-ventilated and insulated, each with a window through which the horses can put their heads.

The staff accommodation has been thoroughly revamped, with space now for eleven staff living on the yard in good standard accommodation.

There is an indoor ride for the horses to use when the weather is bad; an all-weather trotting ring; six paddocks; and three sand pits for horses to roll in.

For owners we have a two bedroom apartment, comfortably furnished to a good standard. Owners are very welcome to come to stay free of charge either to see their horses on the gallops the next day or to come to the races or sales.
