How to Start
In the first instance meet with Rae to have an informal chat about your requirements, and what might suit the type of ownership you are considering. You are more than welcome to have a no obligation tour of the yard and gallops at a mutually convenient time. Gallops tours usually mean an early start, so our comfortable owners' accommodation is available for prospective owners to stay the night before by arrangement. Click here for the yard plan and photographs of the apartment. This is the single most important decision you will make apart from your choice of trainer. Rae will discuss with you what may be most appropriate for your requirements. If, for example, you are looking for plenty of racing action quickly, it may be better for you to have an older horse. If you are looking to the long term a well bred yearling filly, who you can name and consider breeding from, may be more suitable. You can come to the yard to meet Rae and the team at any time. However the main sales for yearlings at Newmarket; Deauville, France; Lexington, Kentucky; and Ireland start from about September to Christmas. This is the main sale season and there are horses in training sales for horses who have run as well as unbroken untrained yearlings. There are always a selection of horses or shares in horses for sale in the yard from time to time. Click here for a full list of what is available at the moment... There is no point in pretending that owning a racehorse is cheap. There is no point in pretending it is a get rich quick scheme either. Despite those warnings, owning a racehorse is a wonderfully absorbing pastime which could quickly turn into an obsession! On average training a racehorse costs around £1,400 plus VAT per month (the VAT is recoverable). For more details of training fees please e-mail office secretary Bo at raeguest@raeguest.com
