Miss Buckshot scores for the Chevaliers!

Miss Buckshot, a stocky filly by Tamayuz bought by Rae at Goffs' Sportsman Sale in
Ireland last year and owned by 'The Buckhurst Chevaliers' a partnership including owners Tony Hirschfeld and Stephen Piper who have had much success with Kickingthelilly got off the mark at the third attempt at Warwick this afternoon.

Last time out Miss Buckshot fluffed the start somewhat but ran on well at Kempton to finish fifth. Today at Warwick there was no such issues as she was quickly out from her low draw to bag the rail and sat 'in the van' position under Chris Catlin before asserting just over two out to score by half a length.  The first and second had pulled well clear of the rest in what was rumoured to contain some highly regarded fillies.

Miss Buckshot became our 28th winner of the season and our eighth two year old winner.  Congratulations must go to Arif who looks after her and Tony Whelan who rides her most days.

Kiss From a Rose off the mark

Kiss From a Rose (right), a racy looking chestnut Compton Place filly got off the mark

yesterday at the third attempt to give owners Peter Sakal, Alan Davies and Roger Jennings a Victory at Roger's local track Wolverhampton yesterday evening.

Kiss From a Rose had shown promise on her previous two starts despite running keen at times and not settling well but after adopting different tactics last night, she settled well and travelled throughout before asserting two furlongs out and scoring in a decisive fashion albeit a shade comfortably.

Kiss From a Rose became our 27th winner of the season and our 7th two year old winner proving the younger division are in fine form.  Congratulations to all her owners and to Charlotte who looks after her.

Mirza Dead-heats in Prix Du Petit Couvert

Mirza, Chris and Lesley Mills' star sprinter rallied well at Longchamp on Arc Trials day yesterday to dead-heat in the Group Three Prix Du Petit Couvert. A race that Mirza's mother Millyant, owned by the Mills' won twice in the past.

The photo took some half an hour for the French authorities to sort out, which in the end they couldn't and a dead heat was announced. This picture (right) is a little before the line and shows how close it was as despite looking like there is only three horses there, it was actually a four way photo (you can just see some red arms and a yellow jockeys head). If only Mirza's cheekpieces passed his nose!

Congratulations to Farman who looks after Mirza but has returned to his native India for a holiday, to Hollie who travelled Mirza across to France and everyone else connected with the win.  I'm pretty sure Andrew celebrated the win whilst at Bath as Mirza is the apple of his eye.

All being well, and the ground staying soft (or softer!), Mirza is entered in the Prix De L'Abbaye on Arc day and that would seem the obvious route.

Headline News' Eyecatching Victory

Headline News, a lightly raced four year-old filly by Peintre Celebre (the same sire as Ed De Gas) made her belated season debut after missing the majority of it with a combination of a niggling injury and fast ground. In fact, her return today was after a period of 356 days and although probably needing the run to bring her to peak fitness she eased from last to first with consomate ease under Chris Catlin to run away with the victory by a comfortable 5 lengths.

Congratulations to all of her owners for being patient with Headline News and lets hope Val Beeson and Lynn Lambert who are currently in a sunnier clime can raise a glass of champagne or a cocktail in victory! Well done also to Hollie who looks after her, but couldnt take her due to her taking Mirza to Longchamp tomorrow.

Calm Attitude Claims Victory

Calm Attitude, a three year old filly by Dutch Art won a valuable Claimer at Sandown earlier this afternoon.  She was put in as the 11/4 favourite, and justified that when gallantly running down the long term leader Harbinger Lass to collect a shade short of £7,000 for her partnership, The Calm Again Syndicate.

Calm Attitude was purchased at the Tattersalls yearling sales at Newmarket almost two years ago for £19,000 and she is going the right way for repaying that fee. If your interested in getting involved in a partnership for next season now is the time to think about it with the Tattersalls yearling sales coming up. Get in touch!
