What Si Belle lacks in inches she has always made up for in heart, not that she needed to call on her reserves when scoring a facile first success at Southwell this afternoon. An otherwise smooth victory under Ted Durcan was not without its scary moments as one of the likely dangers, Sir Mark Prescott's Iron Cross, reared up in his stall, putting his right foreleg in to Si Belle's adjacent stall and even got his leg through her reins. Thanks to some quick reactions from the stalls handlers she was disentangled and taken out and Iron Cross eventually persuaded down from the rigging and withdrawn. After that things went much more smoothly with Si Belle always going easily to win by nine lengths getting that all important 1 next to her name. Si Belle is a big favourite of Rae and Sam who led her up today and rides her at home, so well done to him. If she carries on like this she will make a valuable addition to her owner Kirsten Rausing's highly successful broodmare band. It has been an auspicious weekend for Miss Rausing as her stallion Hernando was the sire of Oaks winner Look Here and Derby third Casual Conquest, so many congratulations to her for those successes and our thanks for sending us one as tough and game as Si Belle. |
