Leon Vaessen of Bahia Breeze fame had a landmark success today, when he bred the first winner from his mare Carollan. Lady Carollina is Lady Carollina's first born Bertolini filly, and when she arrived this year she proved something of a handful to ride and train. But summer afternoons in the paddock and the sympathetic handling of rider Karl Pierrepont and lad Farman Ali have combined to settle her down no end resulting in an excellent first success this afternoon. Leon heads an enthusiastic ownership syndicate including the extremely lucky Lynn Lambert and we were only sorry that he was unable to make it to Leicester due to what must have been a very important game of golf! Poor Leon wasn't even able to listen in to the commentary but Rae texted him immediately after the race to inform him of this first success. Provided she comes out of the race OK, Lady Carollina should improve and find another winning opportunity. Well done to all concerned. |
