Zelos Girl wins well 04/08/2008

Zelos Girl justified her short odds at Carlisle this afternoon to win well under Saleem Golam. The race was not without incident, the start being delayed by almost ten minutes due to a recalcitrant racegoer refusing to get off the track and abusing the jockeys down at the start. Eventually they got the race off and it was pretty much plain sailing for Zelos Girl, who has always shown a lot of speed, and she won by 1 3/4 lengths for owners Mike Beadle, Ian Booth, Roger Jennings and Alan Davies. It was good to see the first two year old winner on the board and to see Zelos Girl fulfil some of her promise. Well done to the partnership and Jo Riddell who looks after Zelos Girl. The yard was about ready for some good news however after the devastating loss of Lady Carollina in action last week at Leicester when she fell in the final two furlongs and very sadly could not be saved. This was a tragic loss of a talented and beautiful horse and a terrible shock for all concerned. Our sympathies go to her owners headed by breeder Leon Vaessen whose first homebred runner Lady Carollina was. Mercifully jockey Saleem Golam was badly shaken but escaped injury and was able to ride Zelos Girl to success today.
