Well the weather at Haydock was grim but heavy ground was just what the doctor ordered for Bahia Breeze, who showed the doubters that she had not lost it when posting a career best effort to be narrowly beaten by Henry Cecil's Multidimensional, a colt rated 118. Poor old Bahia keeps running up against Group 1 horses in lesser grades, but she never knows when she is beaten and made him pull out all the stops to win. She beat three previous Group 3 winners on Saturday so surely her day will come when conditions are right. It was mission accomplished in Cologne, when Kirsten Rausing's Si Belle also gained black type (her first at her first attempt) when finishing second in a Listed race. She has always had a lovely pedigree, but getting black type herself must have been more than Kirsten or her breeder Sonia Rogers could possibly have expected after she did not make her reserve as a yearling. Neither Bahia nor Si Belle caught the bloodstock agents' eyes at the sales so it goes to show that there is value to be found in buying fillies, especially when you have them trained by Rae Guest! |
