Bahia Breeze went to the December Mare sales last Wednesday and was not sold for 50,000 guineas, which was very disappointing but indicative of bloodstock markets overall and the effects of the recession. She was later sold privately and has left the yard to go to her new home at Ballyhimikin Stud in Ireland, marking the end of an era. We had Bahia Breeze in training for four years and she has proved a tremendously tough, resilient and talented animal, consistently punching above her weight, but just missing out on a Group race win. She owes her owners Stewart Balfour, Steve Russell, Derek and Mark Willis, Lynn Dorling, Alan Davies and Leon Vaessen nothing after four years of high excitement and fantastic racing around Europe. It was a shame to see her go but she had earned her place in the paddocks and at Ballyhimikin she will be well mated and cared for. We shall look out for her progeny at the sales. |
