It was confirmed this afternoon that Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen will take the plum ride on Rae Guest's Serious Attitude in the Stan James 1,000 Guineas on 3 May. Rae and part owner Derek Willis had been waiting to hear that Pat had been released by Dermot Weld to ride her both in the racecourse gallop at Newmarket on Wednesday and on the day itself. Trainer Rae Guest explained 'Pat is a top jockey who has been lucky for us before, winning a Group 3 on Yomalo and being second in a Group 2 on Bahia Breeze. We wanted to be sure that the same jockey could ride her in the gallop before racing on Wednesday and on the day. We are delighted to have secured Pat's services and grateful to Dermot Weld for releasing him'. The other Guineas news is that leading French fancy Proportional was beaten into third in the Prix La Grotte at Longchamp today. Peter Thomas' feature on the build up to Serious Attitude's Guineas bid continues in the Racing Post today. |
