Expectations were sky high for a number of runners in yesterday's 1,000 Guineas, not least the unbeaten pair Rainbow View and our own Serious Attitude. So someone had to lose their 100% record and in the event it was both of them. Serious Attitude, who had been settling so well at home over 7 and a mile, ran with the choke out when the stalls opened and faded at the business end of the race, a mile apparently proving at least one furlong too far for her stamina to stretch. Pat Smullen reported that they were never going fast enough for her early in the race and she had pulled too hard to get home. Rae is going to start looking for 6 furlong races for her but it is often difficult for three year old sprinters, especially fillies with a Group 1 penalty. That said, she gave a good account of herself and most importantly trotted up fine this morning. It was very fast ground yesterday and that will have left its mark on many and reportedly contributed to the eclipse of the odds on favourite Rainbow View. Let's hope we can see all these talented horses back on the racetrack soon. |
