Although the runners have been few in recent weeks, the yard is a hive of activity with yearlings being broken in and horses coming and going. All the yearlings are now broken in and cantering away. With most of them coming from the sales, they are well handled and no-where near so hairy as some of the homebreds can be. That said, it never fails to amaze how quickly they learn to put up with all the new things we throw at them - first rug, being tied up, first bit, first roller, first saddle, reins around their quarters and first rider. All usually done within about 3 weeks. So although there is not much to see from the outside you can tell that this is an exciting time. |
