Chrome Update - 12th May

California Chrome has been doing everything right as his build up to Royal Ascot continues.  He is moving well as you can see from this picture (right) taken on Newmarket’s Summer Gallop on Saturday with Robbie Mills on board.  Rae and Robbie are both pleased with his progress.

With Alan's agreement, Frankie Dettori has agreed to ride Chrome in a racecourse gallop in a couple of weeks subject to his current commitments.  We will endeavour to keep everyone updated when plans have been made.

Globetrotting Mirza travels again

Globetrotting sprint superstar Mirza (pictured right ridden by Robbie Mills) is off on his travels again early on Saturday morning when he makes the journey from Newmarket to Longchamp.  Mirza could probably drive the box himself, he knows the route so well! Instead we'll leave that to local transport company NRT.  He will be accompanied on his travels once again by Travelling Head Lad and doting fan Andrew Bubb.

Mirza takes on the Group 3 Prix Saint-Georges over the flying five furlongs at Longchamp on French Guineas Day. He made his seasonal debut here last season finishing a respectable fifth to Catcall.  He takes on Catcall once again, but this year should strip fitter for his previous run in Dubai. The post time of the race has not been released yet, but will be available via the entries section of this website sometime tomorrow.

Elsewhere this weekend we have Strike A Light run at Lingfield tomorrow afternoon, a triple winner last year she makes her seasonal debut along with maiden runner Classic Image.

Saturday see's Derek Willis' filly Cape Factor (pictured right) make her seasonal debut when taking on the Spring Trophy, a Listed race over seven furlongs at Haydock.  She should get her favourable soft ground.

There should be more entries and hopefully declarations happening in the next few weeks as the season really starts to kick in to gear.

Emma recovering after operation

You may have read that Emma O'Gorman, leading breeze up sales consignor, owner of The Dream Fast, Silversmith and Vale of Paris and friend of the yard, suffered a broken leg in an accident just before she was scheduled to breeze a horse in the Guineas sale on Thursday.  Although it was a bad break of the femur and she was in a lot of pain, Emma seemed in good spirits on Sunday night after an operation to put a rod in her thigh. She is in Addenbrookes Hospital and is expected to be home later in the week.  Everyone here wishes her a speedy recovery.

Miss Buckshot runs great race

The Buckhurst Chevaliers' Miss Buckshot ran a great race at Goodwood on Saturday to finish sixth in a quality field on her first crack at Listed company.  Jockey David Probert reported that it rode like a good race, with the field quickening off a good pace. 'Buckers' is as fit as a flea from running on the all weather and she ran with great credit to be beaten only around 2 1/2 lengths.

After a quiet period while we have been transitioning from all weather to grass horses, we will be making a slew of entries in the next few days.  We also have Calm Attitude declared at Brighton tomorrow in the hope of forecast rain and What Say You declared in the Cheshire Oaks (Listed) on Wednesday.

Chrome Update - 2nd May

California Chrome has had a fairly routine week this week with plenty of cantering using Newmarket’s extensive turf and all-weather canters.

The town has been abuzz with all of the build up to the 2000 Guineas staged today, and the 1000 Guineas tomorrow.  They are the first two classic races of the season, ran over a straight mile at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Racecourse, less than a mile from our stables. You can see the famous grandstand in the background behind Chrome (right).

Elsewhere today, Miss Buckshot runs at Goodwood in the EBF Conqueror Stakes, a Listed race over a mile. Miss Buckshot has been a consistent horse for us over the winter and deserves to take her place in the field.

Hopefully she can run into a place and gain a bit of black-type to enhance her pedigree when she finally goes off to stud.

For our transatlantic readers, enjoy watching the Kentucky Derby and remember a year ago California Chrome’s worldwide fame was just starting to take off.
