First win for Say Grace

The Rainy Day Partnership's three year old filly, Say Grace, finally got her head in front and shed her maiden tag at Wolverhampton yesterday.

This daughter of Kodiac out of the mare Break Bread was purchased by Rae at last years Guineas Breeze Up Sale. She ran seven times in her two year old campaign finishing second twice. This was her second start of the New Year with both runs coming at Wolverhampton and with this latest start she stepped back up to seven furlongs. David Probert was booked for the ride for this Selling Stakes and there was a small field of only five runners.

Say Grace broke sharply from stall three and was held up just behind the leaders. Turning in to the straight she started her challenge down the outside and ran on strongly to win by three quarters of a length. She will now be turned away for a few weeks to enjoy a late winter break. Congratulations to her patient owners for this well deserved win !

A Happy New Year for Arriviste

We had the perfect start to the New Year as Arriviste followed up December's win at Lingfield with a decisive victory at Southwell on New Years Day.

By winning this Fillies' Conditions Stakes the Kirsten Rausing homebred qualified for the All Weather Championship Finals day on Good Friday. The return to seven furlongs in her last two starts seems to have been the key to her return to form. She is a free running filly and the drop back in distance has suited her running style. David Probert was booked to ride and she travelled to post as favourite. She sat behind the leader for the first two furlongs then hit the front. At the furlong pole she went clear and won by a comfortable two and a half lengths.

Congratulations to Arriviste's owner/breeder Kirsten Rausing who is a long term supporter of the yard. She invests so much into her Lanwades Stud breeding operation and this win for her was thoroughly deserved.

Arriviste returns to winning ways

It was extremely rewarding to see Kirsten Rausing's Arriviste make a return to form on Saturday at Lingfield. This four year old mare is another Lanwades homebred by the German Derby winner Sea The Moon. Rae also trained her dam Apparatchika who won two races for us back in 2015.

Last season she gave a good account of herself in Listed and Group company and therefore started this season on a mark of 97. Her first three runs this year were in Listed company but her form was not as strong as last year and so she was dropped in grade for her latter races. All of her races this season had been over 1m 2f but after her last run a discussion was had with Kirsten and a decision was made to drop her back to 7f, a distance she had won over as a two-year-old.

Lowered to an official rating of 87 she was declared for the Coral Proud to Support British Racing/Irish EBF Conditions Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday and Ryan Moore was booked for the ride. A small field of five runners went to post and she raced handily during the race. Two and a half furlongs out she was shaken up and went clear easily to go on and win by two and three-quarter lengths.

We are delighted to provide Kirsten with a second winner this year after her two-year-old Melodramatica won first time out for us back in June. Arriviste was the one hundred and eleventh winner of 2021 to be bred at Lanwades Stud so it has been a fantastic year for them which we are proud to have contributed to.

Fauvette strikes again

Fauvette increased her tally of wins this year to three after winning the feature race at Chelmsford yesterday.

After finishing fourth at Lingfield in her last race she found a return to the flat track at Chelmsford much more to her liking. Owned by Rae and Rachel this striking grey filly is becoming one of the flagbearer's for the yard.

The Racing Welfare Handicap was the feature race of the day and this Class 3 event over six furlongs attracted six runners of which Fauvette went off the evens favourite. Under David Probert she was drawn one of the six runners and raced on the inside at the rear of the field for most of the race. A furlong and a half out she moved up to take the lead and won by a length and a half beating the Stuart Williams trained Huraiz.

This mare is progressing well and won this off a mark of 80 with plenty in hand and she is an exciting prospect for the yard. Congratulations to Rae and Rachel and thank you to David Probert for the ride. Well done also to Sajjad Ali who looks after her at home.

2021 Yearling Parade

On Saturday we hosted our 2021 Yearling Parade and what a fantastic morning it was ! The parade was organised this year to primarily launch our new syndicate 'The Unusual Suspects' and quite a few of the members were able to attend in person. Those who couldn't be there were able to watch the parade live on Instagram.

It was great to see some owners who were not part of the syndicate also come along to show their support. Paul Smith was there to see his smart Oasis Dream filly on show, she is out of a Sea The Stars mare and he is looking forward to watching her develop. We were also delighted that Joyce Wallsgrove was able to attend, a former owner of ours with Poets Dance.

Our guests began to arrive shortly before 10.00 and were treated to homemade sausage rolls, quiche and cakes courtesy of Newmarket Secret Kitchen. Dan had made a vat of mulled wine which went down extremely well ! Steve Currie (our newest owner) attended with his wife Jackie. This was their first event since becoming syndicate members and our existing owners made them feel so welcome, they are definitely now part of the family here at Chestnut Tree Stables.

The parade itself started a little after 10.30 and for some of our owners this was the first time they had set eyes on their new horses and we hope they were not disappointed. Our staff showed them off beautifully and the yearlings were on their best behaviour ! After the horses had paraded everybody stayed until the end of the morning and enjoyed catching up with each other. We would like to thank our hardworking staff who ensured the morning ran smoothly. It was a great success and I think we can safely say that The Unusual Suspects are well and truly up and running !
